Privacy.
Trace is private by architecture, not by policy. Your recordings, transcripts, and memories stay on your devices. This policy covers the Trace app for iPhone and Trace Desk for Mac.
Policy
On-device by default.
Audio and transcripts. When you record, Trace transcribes audio on your device. Recordings and transcripts are not uploaded to ModusBunker and are never used to train any model. You can delete a recording and its transcript at any time.
Memories you approve. Trace proposes candidate memories from your sessions. A memory is only kept if you approve it, and each approved memory keeps a source receipt back to the moment it came from. The in-app assistant answers only from memories you have approved.
Sync. If you enable iCloud, your sessions and memories sync through your own private Apple iCloud (CloudKit) account so your devices stay in step. That data lives in your iCloud; ModusBunker cannot read it. You can turn sync off in iOS Settings.
iPhone to Mac. Trace Desk receives sessions from your iPhone over your own local network (Bonjour discovery and a direct connection between your devices). Sessions are not routed through ModusBunker servers or any third-party cloud.
Optional AI providers. Recall runs on-device by default (and, on supported systems, Apple's Private Cloud Compute, which Apple states does not retain your data). You may optionally connect an external AI provider (for example a cloud model you choose). Trace never sends your content to an external provider without an explicit consent prompt, "Local Only" mode blocks all external and cloud routing, and any API key you enter is stored only in the device Keychain — never on ModusBunker servers.
Deletion. You control your data. Delete individual recordings, transcripts, or memories in the app; removing the app and turning off iCloud sync removes the associated data from your devices and your iCloud.
Early-access list. If you join the Trace early-access list on this site, ModusBunker stores your email address, the optional use case you select, your signup source, and basic request metadata so we can send TestFlight invites and launch updates. We do not sell this data. Ask to be removed any time by emailing support@modusbunker.com.
