Getting started

How Trace works.

Capture. On iPhone, tap the capture button to record by voice, scan a document, or import a file. Trace transcribes on your device — no account needed.

Approve. Trace proposes memories worth keeping. Approve the ones you want; each keeps a receipt back to its source. The assistant only ever uses memories you've approved.

Recall. Ask in plain language on iPhone or in Trace Desk on your Mac. Every answer shows the memory it came from.

Connect your Mac. Open Trace Desk on the same Wi-Fi network; it discovers your iPhone over your local network and receives sessions directly — no cloud in between. If they don't see each other, confirm both devices are on the same network and that local-network access is allowed for Trace Desk in macOS Settings.

Privacy controls. Recall is on-device by default. "Local Only" mode blocks all external and cloud routing. Connecting an optional external AI provider always requires your explicit consent, and keys are stored only in the Keychain.

Troubleshooting.

Trace Desk can't find my iPhone. Same Wi-Fi network on both devices, and allow local-network access for Trace Desk (macOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Local Network).

Where is my data? On your devices, and in your own iCloud if you enable sync. Delete recordings, transcripts, or memories any time in the app.

How do I get the beta? Join the early-access list; we send TestFlight invites from there.
